Day Five - Fish and Foul

Today's Verses:
Genesis 1:20-21,23 ERV

20 Then God said, “Let the water be filled with many living things, and let there be birds to fly in the air over the earth.” 21 So God created the large sea animals.[a] He created all the many living things in the sea and every kind of bird that flies in the air. And God saw that this was good.23 There was evening, and then there was morning. This was the fifth day.
Grandma's Thoughts:

On the fifth day, God made water animals like whales, dolphins, and sharks and other animals and fish that live in the water 🐠. On day five he also made birds🐦.

It's fun to watch water animals and fish swim in the water. Some can jump high out of the water and dive back in. Other fish never leave the bottom of the ocean. God made all kinds of fish. Sometime you may have an opportunity to see an aquarium where fish live.  It's fun to watch them swim. Bigger aquariums like at the zoo have larger water animals.

Birds like to sing in the morning. Sometimes they start their music before daylight. Birds come in all different colors and they have different songs that they sing. They almost sound like they are thanking God for the new day.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We are very grateful for the water animals that swim and the birds that sing and fly. They make the earth so beautiful for us.

We thank you, Father, for fish and foul.

Amen.

Day Four - Lights

Today's Verses:
Genesis 1:14,16,19 ICB

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the sky to separate day from night. 16 So God made the two large lights. He made the brighter light to rule the day. He made the smaller light to rule the night. He also made the stars. 19 Evening passed, and morning came. This was the fourth day.
Grandma's Thoughts:
The light for the day we call the sun and the light for the nighttime is the moon. God also made the stars that we can see at night.

The sun gives us light when we get up and go to school, church, work or play. Most of the time we see the moon at night when it's time for bed. The moon is not as bright, but it is beautiful in the dark sky. I hope you will have a chance to look outside sometime and see the sun in the day time and the moon and stars at night. God made them for us.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
On day four of creation, you made lights so we can have daylight and darkness. Thank you for the sun and the moon and the stars.
Thank you, Father,
Amen.

Day Three

Today's Verses:
Genesis 1:9-10, 13 ICB
Then God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered together so the dry land will appear.” And it happened. God named the dry land “earth.” He named the water that was gathered together “seas.” God saw that this was good. Evening passed, and morning came. This was the third day.
Grandma's Thoughts:
On the third day of the creation, God divided up the water into oceans or seas. In between the bodies of water was the dry land or earth. Grass, plants, and trees could grow on the dry land. It's fun to play on grass or just walk barefoot. The plants and trees make food for us to eat. The water is used for industry, but in the summer, when the weather is warm, it sure is fun to swim and play in.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we are so thankful for your hard work on Day Three. You made dry land by dividing up the water and you provided food to eat. On Day Three, you also made water for businesses which are very important, but it sure is fun for swimming and playing.

We thank you, Father,

Amen

Day Two - Blue Sky

Today's Verses:
Genesis 1:6-7 ICB
Then God said, "Let there be something to divide the water in two!" So God made the air to divide the water in two. Some of the water was above the air, and some of the water was below it. God named the air "sky." Evening passed, and morning came. This was the second day.
Grandma's Thoughts:
When it is warmer outside, a fun thing to do is to lay on the ground and look up at the sky. If it is a sunny day, you should see a beautiful blue sky. You may also see white clouds. The clouds can be whispy or thick like cotton balls.
If you live in the city, you can still look up at the sky and appreciate God's creation. You can look out a window or just pretend. See the blue sky and the clouds in your imagination. Isn't it a beautiful color? The clouds look so fluffy. Wow - thank you God for the sky.

It doesn't matter where we live, we can always appreciate what God created on Day Two. It is a very special gift to all of us from God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for creating the beautiful sky and clouds. It is a wonderful gift that we can enjoy every day.

Thank you, Father,
Amen.

First Day

Today's Verses:
Genesis 1:1-5 ICB
In the beginning God created the sky and the earth. The earth was empty and had no form. Darkness covered the ocean, and God’s Spirit was moving over the water. Then God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light. God saw that the light was good. So he divided the light from the darkness. God named the light “day” and the darkness “night.” Evening passed, and morning came. This was the first day.
Grandma's Thoughts:
The first thing God did was to separate the sky and the earth. Now he had a sky and the ground, but it was so dark, he couldn't see it. It was dark all the time. So, God got busy and made light and called it day and the darkness he called night.

In the First Day of the creation of our world, God made the sky and the earth and light and darkness, When we go to bed at night, the sky is getting dark, but when we get up in the morning, the sky is getting light. All because God made the night and the day.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father:
We love you so much and we thank you for making the sky and the earth and the night and the day.
Amen.

My Best Friend

Today's Verse:
Philippians 4:13
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Grandma's Thoughts:
There are times when we have to do something very hard. The thought of doing it makes us scared and we don't think we can. But, if we ask Jesus to help us, he will give us the strength and courage to face whatever it is.

Here is an example:
Your family moves to a new town in the middle of the school year. You must start a new school and you are a little afraid. You don't know anyone at the school and you think you won't be able to make any friends.

If you will pray and ask Jesus to give you the courage to face the first day at your new school, he will. I don't know if you will make a new friend the first day, but I do know that your best friend, Jesus, will be right there with you the whole day. There isn't a better Best friend in the whole world than Jesus.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for giving us the strength and the courage to do whatever we are asked to do. You are with us and help us everywhere we go. Thank you for being my best friend.
Amen.

Doing Right

Today's Verse:
Matthew 5:10 CEV

"God blesses those people (kids too), who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven."

Grandma's Thoughts:
A story might help us understand this verse. Let's say you tell someone at school about your church, how you love it, your Sunday School teacher is nice and explains the Bible so you can understand it, plus you get treats and play outside on nice days. You are trying to get this friend at school to come to your church, you are evangelizing. This is a big word that means trying to tell others about Jesus.
If the person you are trying to evangelize, makes fun of you or laughs at you, that’s treating you badly for doing what was right. God says we will belong to his kingdom of heaven if someone treats us badly for doing right.

We don’t want to be hurt or treated badly ever, but if that happens because you are telling someone about God or Jesus, God says we will be blessed.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your promise that you will bless us if we are treated badly for evangelizing or telling others about you.

Amen.
